Welcome

Hi, welcome to Xperiancers.com, the Xperia blogger’s centre. We’ve created it so that Sony Ericsson can start to understand and engage in all of the conversations that are already happening about the Xperia.

It’s fair to say that up until now, apart from with the developer community, we’ve not done a great job of listening to and talking with the wider blogging community. This is our first step in changing all that. We’ve been inspired by some of the great initiatives by other companies, but this is very much our own idea and we hope we’ve learnt from what others have done.

To help us we’ve taken on Wolfstar, a public relations company that specialises in social media. Now I know that will worry some of you, but I promise it shouldn’t. This site absolutely isn’t about old-fashioned spin and marketing. It’s a genuine initiative to improve the two-way conversation between Sony Ericsson and you, our customers. Wolfstar are going to help us do that.

The reason that we’ve decided to focus on the Xperia is that we think it is such an exciting and powerful new handset and its already had an amazing amount of buzz and attention.

You’ll be hearing from lots of different people over the next few days and weeks. This post is a joint effort by Merran Wrigley (a senior corporate global PR bod at Sony Ericsson) and Stuart Bruce (the managing director of Wolfstar) and we’ll both be authors. Other authors will include several members of Sony Ericsson’s development team, as well as people from Wolfstar.

We’ve got lots of exciting news and ideas to talk about, so please subscribe to our feed and use the comments to let us know what you think.

There are plenty of details about the Xperia X1 in the public arena, but on what O2 tariffs will it be available? Shall we have to pay cash on top of Pay Monthly subscriptions as with the Apple iphone? I think we should be told.

I agree there is plenty info available in the public arena but something I cannot seem to find information on is the security/encryption features on the device. I had an HP ipaq 4700 for the last 4 or so years now and it just died on me like a few months ago, hence why I am looking for a new phone/pda. But the hp 4700 device did have built-in encryption at least for the internal memory and there was an option to wipe the device if a certain number of login attempts failed. I don’t think that last part used to ever work, but I really do hope Sony has thought about this aspect also and if not, maybe try and add it in the future via a ROM update.

There is a plethora of information about the xperia x1 floating around the internet blogging community that you can access, but with this webpage, I am hoping that Sony will finally take the time to clarify all the questions we have. So I guess what I am trying to say, is thank you for finally addressing our concerns! I personally cannot wait for the webcast Monday as it should be rather informative.

To echo the previsous comment, I must say that after spending many hours on blogs like xda-developers and Tiltsite, I am thoroughly impressed that Sony Ericsson is taking the initiative to set up an official site like this to provide a direct line of communication between the manufacturer and end-user!

This fact alone has convinced me to hold off on the HTC Touch Pro for now and wait for the X1’s release.

Thank you for taking this huge step. I can’t wait to see it unfold. If done right, this will ensure a large and loyal following for Xperia.
