Your Xperia Questions Answered

This blog is coming up to being two weeks old and we’ve received a fair few questions in the comments sections. Yesterday I went through the questions with Ramanath and we sorted out answers to those which are most commonly asked. So here goes:
• Launch dates / networks etc… It’s really not up to us to say which networks will be carrying the phone and when. They all have their own business plans and their own plans for the launch etc…. so we’re not going to get involved in speculation as to who will carry it and when. The launch date of the 30th is the day we ship the phones to the networks and there will, most likely be some lead time before it appears. (though I’d expect to see it on some shelves in early October.)
• Is there an accelerometer? No.
• Will there be 30 fps video recording? Yes ,as promised.
• Will there be one or two versions of the phone? There will be two versions, one for the US and one for everyone else.
• Is there any difference between the black and silver versions of the phone? Yes, one is black, the other is silver. Other than that, no they are the same phone.
• How big is the battery and how long does it last? The battery is a 1500mAh unit (about 10% bigger than, for example, the touch pro). How long it lasts depends very much on how much you use the phone. Even in the worst case scenario, with all the features turned on (GPS, internet, applications etc…) and heavy usage, it will last all day and need to be charged over night.
• Questions re: the speed etc… The device has a graphics accelerator, a 528 Mhz processor and 384 megs of ram (so it should be as fast as anything else that is out there.)

Now that we are in Daylight saving time in the UK the Xperia panel clock is still stuck in GMT. Can this be changed?
The Windows Mobile time settings shows the correct time.
I download On the roadpanel on PC, and copy it to X1, and click setup in the folder, but nothing happens. what is wrong. By the way, I lost the CDs when I bought X1, and all the X1 software in my PC is gone, where can I download it?

I have a new XPeria phone, have paired with my Bluetooth stereo player for my car, I can make and receive calls, but cannot stream audio from my Xperia to the Stereo, any idea on what could I check or configure?

Hi, i’m Timothy from Jakarta, Indonesia. I’ve just bought a X1 a couple days ago, and I’m not satisfied with it… It doesn’t have a stereo speakers like I expecting it to be, and the sound quality was just terrible…
I love the phone from the first time I saw it, but now, just about 3 days from the time I bought it, I wanna sell this phone..
Please tell me how to change the standard ringtones into a mp3 ringtones?
The system was just to complicated for me (that was my first impression when i’m using my BlackBerry Storm for the first time, but after a few while, I’m able to manage it, but with this X1… Aaaarrrgh!!! I just can’t handle it…)

And more of it, when I activated one of the panel which is show the city where we are live, it always open with the following city : New York, Tuesday, Jan 01, 2008 then suddenly it changes to the setting that i’ve sets before, Jakarta, present date…
It’s not a real problem maybe for some people, but still, it annoying…
And the battery lasts not for long.. I’ve just charged the X1 yesterday, then I let it until the next day without using it at all, now the battery life bar is just half from it full condition..
And one thing important, how can SE X1 comes without Equalizer for it music player (Windows Media Player)???
When you’re listening music from it “mono” speaker, the output sound is too treble, I thought if I use the headset it will boost the bass sound, but there’s no differences… As for information, I bought the X1 so I can pairing it with my Motorola O ROKR sunglasses bluetooth headset, but the sound quality was just too… You answered it yourself!
when i send someone a meeting request through the calendar using any email account, the recipients always get the invitations as though they were for that same day.
how can this be corrected? what can be causing this?

Also, can’t work out how to assign an audio track to alarm or SMS, or get Road Panel working..
Come on SE, lets get some support – it’s a good phone, but the details are letting you down (unable to change language from factory default! – you’re having a laugh!!)
Those with short battery lifes, have you run the software updater?
And I’ve got an 8GB card in mine, and it works fine.. for those wishing to upgrade memory, it’s at least capable of that.

I cannot use the bluetooth connection with my laptop.
Hardware : Dell Latitude 620, and Xperia X1i on the other side.

Of course, I established bluetooth connection between phone and laptop, the devices are added as trusted both on laptop and phone, but ActiveSync software does not work with it
Adding na COM port for bluetooth on PC has changed nothing. I enabled only ‘incoming port’, the ‘outcoming’ was impossible to select because laptop have not found devices with such service running

ActiveSync is not finding device to sync on that port.
Additionaly, I cannot use X1 as a modem via bluetooth – the system crashes when I run ‘internet sharing’ on X1 and then click ‘join PAN network’ on laptop
All services are running smoothly via USB – what’s going on ????????
Previously I used Samsung d900 and Nokia E50 with that laptop as a bluetooth modem and for synchronizing with ms outlook and everything was OK.

Hello, I remember when I was looking for a new mobile, I saw xperia’s page and it has something like a vedio of 3 people I think one woman and 2 guys. It wasnt clearly a vedio it was like how did they used xperia. I remember that it used to have navigation. I mean by navigation is like the way finder, but apperantly when I downloaded the way finder it was CLEARLY NOT as what it showed in the vedio and in the xperia page first when it was released. I couldnt find now any thing in xperia’s page that showes the mobile has this feature ANYMORE!! but its too late I’ve bought the mobile one month ago depending on what I saw when the mobile has just been released. I’m pretty sure of what I saw because I wanted a mobile with a navigation. It’s not the wayfinder, not google maps, it was something else, it was a navigation. Where is it??

The phone seems to be robust but unfortunately I dropped it from my belt clip still in leather pouch but the LCD stopped working it seems to be very fragile, not drop tested, I have been using sony PDA for long time but they are quiet robust, I got it fixed by spending USD150 but very reluctant to use it as it seems to me like a show piece item

when i plug in my external headset the mic on the handset stays on so there is the mic in the headset and on the phone working which is terriable if you’re walking with the phone in your pocket and your talking on the headset.

I purchsed an Xperia X1 yesterday in South Korea. It is for use in Korea, but I do not speak Korean. The service provider, SK Telecom, has installed a spbmobileshell on top of the WinMobile install, which seems to be in English, but the Korean overrides it. I want to read my menus in English, but I do not want to lose functionality on the phone… such as sending SMS etc.
How can I peel off the Korean, use the phone in English, and be a happier, more peaceful person as a result?

I have the same problem. Called the SKT help center, they said nothing could be done. Albeit, it seemed they wanted to get me off the phone. Any ideas?

They want you off the phone because it is an import, and they lose a bunch of commissions in a system set up to promote domestic brands and domestic brands only…. (which makes you wonder why they even bother selling overseas brands).
As for solutions: I’ve heard that a GENERIC UK ROM or North American ROM can be flashed to the phone, and that it will work… but concerns remain over SMS functionality.
Apparently, you will need s “cooked” or custom made ROM for the SKT network in order to get English and still be able to use bi-lingual SMS functions.

f you are using the Xperia X1 in Korea, but you want the phone to run in ENGLISH, it is frustrating.
SK Telecom does not support an English language version of Windows Mobile.
However, you CAN switch the phone to English, get a better version of Windows, keep your text messaging, and have the phone read and write both English and Korean characters.

This guy has developed a bunch of cooked ROMs for the Xperia. To install them, you will need to run HardSPL on your phone, then flash the new ROM. If you’ve never done it before, check the xda developers forum, or do a google search to get instructions. Its not that hard, just sounds that way.
