f you are using the Xperia X1 in Korea, but you want the phone to run in ENGLISH, it is frustrating.

SK Telecom does not support an English language version of Windows Mobile.

However, you CAN switch the phone to English, get a better version of Windows, keep your text messaging, and have the phone read and write both English and Korean characters.

This guy has developed a bunch of cooked ROMs for the Xperia. To install them, you will need to run HardSPL on your phone, then flash the new ROM. If you’ve never done it before, check the xda developers forum, or do a google search to get instructions. Its not that hard, just sounds that way.

Hey I would like to use my xperia on my car stereo instead of going out and buying an ipod but when I plugged into the usb port on my car stereo i only got an error sign on my stereo any way around this?

They want you off the phone because it is an import, and they lose a bunch of commissions in a system set up to promote domestic brands and domestic brands only…. (which makes you wonder why they even bother selling overseas brands).

As for solutions: I’ve heard that a GENERIC UK ROM or North American ROM can be flashed to the phone, and that it will work… but concerns remain over SMS functionality.

Apparently, you will need s “cooked” or custom made ROM for the SKT network in order to get English and still be able to use bi-lingual SMS functions.

Steve, I have the same problem. Called the SKT help center, they said nothing could be done. Albeit, it seemed they wanted to get me off the phone. Any ideas?

I purchsed an Xperia X1 yesterday in South Korea. It is for use in Korea, but I do not speak Korean. The service provider, SK Telecom, has installed a spbmobileshell on top of the WinMobile install, which seems to be in English, but the Korean overrides it. I want to read my menus in English, but I do not want to lose functionality on the phone... such as sending SMS etc. How can I peel off the Korean, use the phone in English, and be a happier, more peaceful person as a result?
