Open X2 Q and A post

// September 10th, 2009 // X2

We’ve been getting quite a few questions regarding the X2 and thought it would be a good idea if we had a place to collect and answer these.

If you’ve got a question which can’t be answered by the press release or the white paper, please leave it in the comments and from time to time we’ll post a bunch of answers here.

    Does the X2 have an FM radio capabilities?

    Will the new panels be available for X1 users as well?

    Why go with the same Qualcomm 7200A in the X2 when more advanced processors are available?

    Any chance of SE developing a desktop cradle for the X2?

    Can you confirm whether the X2 has an FM radio or not? While the white paper and official specs on sonyericsson.com say no, an earlier hands on preview video on se-first.com (http://se-first.com/XPERIA-X2-Live-pictures-hands-on-video.html) clearly show a radio UI (at about 2m45s) . Or is it the case that the appropriate hardware is included but the software is not going to be ready for initial release?

    It may seem a minor issue in comparison to the other improvements over the X1, but it’s currently the only thing preventing me getting my pre-order in ASAP.

    Cheers!

    Is there any extra front camera for video conference call? Is the fm radio an HD FM radio? Will the chip on this device help acceleration on hardware that benefits when someone play video files or a movie regardless of the size or the resolution?

    Competitors have touchscreen quite lager than foreseen 3,2″ X2 (e.g. HTC Touch HD with 3,8″ or Toshiba TG01 with 4,1″): why don’t you provide it with at least a 3,8″?

  15. Shooi says:

    Why would anyone with an X1 buy an X2? X1 had build issues, reception issues and SE dropped development after a few months – just look at the main X1 site (www.sonyericsson.com/x1), the CNN panel still says, ‘Coming soon’! I installed it of the SE download site in March! Until SE realise that they can’t give up on a ‘phone’ that they’re charging £600 for months after it’s released, they don’t deserve to do any better than they are!

    Not sure why the X2 kept ;the touch pad – I never use mine on the X1 as I use the screen for selecting items. That real estate could be used for a larger screen
