X2 Q&A responses
// September 30th, 2009 // X2
Firstly, thanks to everyone who left questions and… here are the answers as promised. Most of the questions seem to fall under a few categories so I’ll answer them that way.
The Chipset: We chose the Qualcomm 7200A for two reasons. 1: It is a chipset that we know and trust, we’ve been able to optimize the device to significantly improve its performance. We’ve also improved the way the device manages its memory so we get a better multimedia experience, a more responsive camera, panels and panel management. 2: We wanted the X2 to come in at a lower price point than the X1. Rather than start work with a whole new chipset we chose to develop what we were doing with the Qualcomm to maximize the power / speed / cost ratio.
The screen: We chose the best possible TFT LCD we could find and we’re sticking by it – the vibrant 3.2 inch display on the X2 has high color saturation, high speed and contrast and a great viewing angle. Sony Ericsson will always look for the best and brightest in display technology and for the X2 we are happy with the display we chose.
The FM radio: This won’t be available at launch (sorry) but we are listening to your feedback and will work to bring FM Radio in at our first post-launch software release that will be free of charge for all users.
Panels: We will continue to develop panels for both the X1 and the X2 – look for more details on new panels right here on the blog.
If you have any more questions, keep leaving them in the comments and I’ll update this post.
Thanks again.

does X2 have accelerometer ?
@erwin – yes it does
“We wanted the X2 to come in at a lower price point than the X1″
hopefully it will be more than a 50 dollar difference….
I concern the price only. That’s all I want to know, thanks. I’m sure that X2 will be better than HTC TOUCH PRO2, that’s why i’m waiting. Hope SE Xperia team bring us the pleasant surprise.
Hi,
Will xperia x1 get also that update that improves performance?
Will xperia x1 ever be able to play a movie at 800×480 at a stable frame rate? or should we re-encode things to 400×240 and use only 25% of all the pixels that the screen can produce
Will we be able to rip out the panel manager of X2 and put it on x1? and same goes for the panels? ( yes i know you guys wont bring it out for x1 but well we ( x1) users want some of the siny too .. since x1 and x2 are the same phone .. we could have the same performance.. right? or am i now telling things that you guys dont want to hear? the only thing you guys really improved was tv out and adding gsensor.. and sell it for the same price
When X1 was announced, it was said X1 has accelerometer on it. But, we should slide the keyboard to change from portrait to landscape. Will the X2’s accelerometer just like X1’s ? For what does it use for ?
So with all these new optimizations, it would be safe to say that the X2 will run faster than the X1, correct? e.g. switching from portrait to landscape, panel manager, speed of scrolling, load times.
Also, does the new screen provide a better color display now that it has a high color saturation, [better] contrast, and high speed?
Lastly, great to hear about the new Panels for BOTH the X1 and X2! Thank you for doing your best!
@ Koji
If they were doing their best, they would provide a WM6.5 update for the X1… but they aren’t
JUST SAYIN.
Hello,
I would strongly recommend implementing Radio
in X2 firmware.
This is an application which is stronlgy in demand by users,
it would be a terrible lack if the device would not have it.
a question alot of us would like to know what is so special about the korean region that they received the spb mobile shell panel 3 and xtrakt game officially, and we in other regions cannot get them both?
if this is the way we will be treated why market the xperia brand to us then.
equality for all regions is all we ask…this is why many users on the xda forum will not purchase the x2, the mere fact that support for the x1 has faded
How soon will this be released in the US? I noticed that it was on the SE European website, but not the US one. If it is released in Europe before the US, could I buy a European unit and have it work seamlessly on the ATT network? Please advise. Thank you!
Is that a chance to have the radio?
It’s a very important feature for many users..
when are u going to announce the uk release date?
As i read, i will not spend 700€ to buy an “x1 with firmware upgrade”, and even not 400€ to buy an unsupported x1 . Thank you se, maybe next time dont try to cheat
Hello,
I deleted the quick menu (at the task bar on top right corner) .. I am driven crazy to try to get it back but can’t find how .. please help.
MANY THANKS/carolyn
Will X2 have like HTC-HD2 multitouch ?
and what will be processor? (HD2 has 1GHz)
does X2 have multi-touch, if not, are you going to install it or 1GHz CPU like in HTC HD2??
thanks in advance
Is the X2 going to work with LocationFree or Remote Play? If this was possible along with an FM radio, it would make it the ultimate phone.
I uses 3 pda with this processzor( x1, touch pro, diamond), and i never buy same once more. This is shit, outdated slow processzor. Smaller company HTC, Toshiba, Acer, and some bigger Samsung uses much more powerfull cpu. Sony Ericsson why are not?
Screen is very small, not finger friendly size, now i never buy smaller than 3,5 coll.
Ram is only 256mb, HTC uses 448mb in touch hd2.
I like the SE, but it should not pay a nothing.
I don’t speak English, sorry.
So, the X2 will be your USS 500 bucks mid-range phone then ??
(NO top notch 12 MegaPix cam, NO 1 GHz snapdragon processor, NO capacitive multitouch screen, NO 850MHz 3G band, NO more RAM memory… NO HARDWARE IMPROVEMENT over X1 AT ALL ?? Same phone in new disguise ??)
Then…
WHERE IS YOUR NEW “FLAGSHIP” WINDOWS PHONE SONY ERICSSON ??
So sorry I will go HTC HD2 or LG Monaco in the mean time, while you turn the 2008 calendar page
@David @Zak
No…X2 won’t have multitouch. It euns on the Qualcomm MSM 7200 528 MHz processor, same as the X1.
But the software has been optimized and the X2 delivers much better performance. This can be seen from the fact that the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X2 has the highest Jbenchmark PRO score ever, despite the performance disadvantages of its very high resolution display!

@ Zac.
Obiviously NOT.
They just stated that they are lazy and want to offer cheap product (cheap cost for them, not cheap price for us) in this post.
I have no idea why they call this device X2
X1.1 sounds more adequate.
To me it seems that SE wants to decrease its product competitiveness
bring radio back!
SE, you know where you have to put your X2 and X10?………
I am waiting to buy this wonderfull phone, the price is good, 500 euro, but..when it came out???? it’s 3 months i am waiting.. and…i need to watch a video sample of recording! it’s not possible that SE have put out some video sample of x10 that will be out in march and not of x2 that is near to come! Tell me when i can find se x2 in stores please!
oh my god…the release date has been postponed to January 2010?? What the hell is going on on SE??? Official launch in November, release 3 months later…that’s just fooling the customers!!
HI. does the x2 will have a remote play panel like the aino phone? thx
Hi there,
I have got some questions regarding the cam. As I correctly understood the specifications the X2 has got the same cam as the X10. But in comparision to the X10 on the X2 there are some lacks of features like the face recognition or the smile detection. Moreover I read in the web that the X10 have got a higher video resolution that the X2.
Since we are talking about the same digi cams I am wondering that both phones haven´t got the same features. Is it possible to have the same digi cam standard for both phones and to upgrade the features of the X2?
Dirk
I won’t buy XPERIA X2 unless there’s a 1Ghz Snapdragon CPU, larger ROM and RAM. If XPERIA X2’s specification same as the XPERIA X1, SE leave me no choice to buy HTC Touch HD2.
Maybe Sony Ericsson is going to put a Snapdragon on it. Due to competing with HTC Touch HD2 and other 1Ghz Smartphone in the 2010 market. Or Multitouch support and bigger RAM and ROM perhaps. I really hope it’s the case for the delay, else Sony Ericsson is putting Xperia X2’s in the wrong place and the wrong time. If it’s specs is same as the X1, than it only worth $400USD or less.
can u tell me if the new update is going to allow the phone to auto rotate from portrait to landscape cause i dont understand why you have to pull out the keyboard to get the phone to go into landscape mode thank you
is the update also gonna have equalizer for the music player
