Update: forgot to mention that this is a UK only service.

The first new panels (facebook and windows live,) for the xperia are now available for download from www.sonyericsson.com/fun. We’ve been trying them out over the last week or so and so far so good - windows live panel lets you integrate your hotmail, msn messenger and live search into the handset, whilst the facebook panel provides a custom interface between the handset and the site.

Two of the facebook features are particularly noteworthy - you can use the phone number field of your friends’ profiles as a kind of subsidiary phonebook and call them from within the panel, which is very cool. Also, the photos page gives you a one click upload and allows you to open the camera without leaving the panel.

We’ll have a demo video of all this up tomorrow.

The Xperia X1 will be available in the 43 Sony Style stores across the US on November 28. The pre-orders will begin on the 13th via the Sony Style website.

CNET has posted an in-depth review of the phone here, it includes an excellent high quality video and I recommend you check it out.

According to the website, the PDC (professional developers’ conference,) is Microsoft’s premier gathering of leading-edge developers and architects. It’s a major event and was the setting for the launches of both windows XP and Vista. They will be blogging up until the end of the event tomorrow and if you speak Swedish I recommend you check it out.

I’ve just installed my version and, as someone who hasn’t used Spb much before, I’m mightily impressed. It’s quick to load, easy to operate, it looks great and it’s free - so it ticks all the boxes as far as I’m concerned.

Update 2: Just had an email from Yaroslav Goncharov, the product manager for Spb Mobile Shell. In his words:
